Last year I finally let go of my <a href=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/2009\/12\/21\/garden-vegetable-terrine\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Garden Vegetable Terrine<\/a> (mold) recipe that everyone had always wanted. So, this year, I decided to share this recipe.<\/p>\n<p>I came across this recipe in an old Southern Living cookbook from the 70&#8217;s. The original recipe was called Seafood Tart-lets and it called to cut out bread circles and press them into mini muffin pans, fill with the seafood mixture and bake in the oven. That just didn&#8217;t cut it for me when I was trying to make them for 50-100 people. So, I decided to try putting the mixture on a baguette slice and I&#8217;ve never looked back at the original recipe.<\/p>\n<p>The old recipe called for canned shrimp (gasp) and the powdered type of Parmesan cheese. I always use fresh or frozen shrimp and chop them in about 4-5 pieces each. I use freshly grated Parmesan and Swiss cheese and top with a sprinkle of paprika. Fresh thyme makes a really pretty garnish also.<\/p>\n<p>At one party I catered someone came up to me and said this appetizer was like &#8220;sex on toast&#8221; &#8212; whatever that is suppose to mean. I guess they liked it and these are always a crowd pleaser. I have yet to try substituting lump crab meat and have no doubt it would be just as delicious as with the shrimp.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DSC_7074.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7009\" title=\"DSC_7074\" src=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DSC_7074-e1290113455397.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"460\"\/><\/a>The filling can be made 1-2 days ahead, but wait and add the shrimp the day you are going to serve them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DSC_7085.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7010\" title=\"DSC_7085\" src=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DSC_7085-e1290113543398.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"387\"\/><\/a>These are absolutely best served hot out of the oven. &nbsp;My thinking has always been it is better for guests to wait on the food than the food to wait on the guest.<\/p>\n<p>Be careful when biting into these little apps. thick<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t \t \t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instructions-container\">\n\t\t<h3 class=\"wprm-recipe-header\">Instructions<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-group\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol class=\"wprm-recipe-instructions\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Slice the baguettes and set aside. \u00a0Mix the mayonnaise, cheeses, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce together. Stir in the chopped shrimp and refrigerate until ready to use.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">When ready to bake, top baguette slice with 1-2 tablespoons of the shrimp\/cheese mixture. (You may want to experiment with one because you don't want to put so much filling that it bubbles up and runs off the toast.)
