Do you have your favorite kind of bread, or ingredients? What kind of sauce do you like, Cognac sauce, whiskey, or bourbon or rum sauce?<\/p>\n<p>Honestly, I have always said I don&#8217;t like bread pudding; guess I thought it was like just eating more bread with your meal, and who needs that. Then one year I made a <a href=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/2011\/11\/08\/pumpkin-bread-pudding-with-caramel-sauce\/\">Pumpkin Bread Pudding<\/a> for a catering job and was told by someone who it was one of the best she had eaten. I still didn&#8217;t try that recipe until recently and I have to say I enjoyed it very much.<\/p>\n<p>This Christmas Bread Pudding is a recipe from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boudros.com\">Boudro&#8217;s <\/a>Restaurant in San Antonio and I&#8217;ve been told by a friend&#8217;s husband (who is a connoisseur of bread puddings) that it is one of the best he has tasted. I decided to change the raisins in Boudro&#8217;s recipe to golden raisins and to keep with the season I will add dried cranberries in place of the raisins when I make this Christmas Day.<\/p>\n<p>The name was changed to &#8220;Christmas Bread Pudding&#8221; because this seems like the perfect dessert for your Christmas dinner and you have to make it before everyone starts counting those nasty calories in January.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I hope everyone has a very merry CHRISTMAS and a Happy New Year. If you lived closer, you could come to dinner in our outdoor kitchen we have named &#8220;Michie&#8217;s Table&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>BLAST FROM THE PAST:<\/strong><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/2010\/11\/22\/parmesan-shrimp-toast\/\"> Parmesan Shrimp Toast<\/a> was one of my all time favorite appetizers that I made when I catered cocktail parties. I guarantee you without a doubt you and your guests will love it; over 10,000 view have been made of this recipe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_3875-e1450022112308.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18134\" src=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_3875-e1450022112308.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3875\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cut up about 8 cups of bread into 3\/4&#8243; cubes. I let mine set out an hour or so to stale a bit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_3681-e1450022216276.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18135\" src=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_3681-e1450022216276.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3681\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Put the bread cubes into a buttered 9 x 13 baking dish and scatter on the raisins.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_3685-e1450020398256.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18133\" src=\"http:\/\/rosemaryandthegoat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_3685-e1450020398256.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3685\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pour the milk mixture over the bread and press down the bread to help absorb the liquid. French bread (or sourdough) cut in 3\/4\" cubes<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"1\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">1 qt. whole milk<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"2\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">3 eggs<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"3\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">2 c. sugar<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"4\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">1 c. golden raisins<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"5\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">2 Tbsp. vanilla extract<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"6\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">1 Tbsp. mace (try not to substitue unless you can't find it.)<\/li>\t\t\t<\/ol>\n\t\t<\/div>\t\t<div class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-section\" yumprintsection=\"1\">\t\t\t<div class=\"blog-yumprint-subheader\">Bourbon Sauce<\/div>\t\t\t<ol class='blog-yumprint-ingredients'>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"0\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">1\/2 c. sugar<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"1\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">2 Tbsp. cornstarch<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"2\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">1\/4 tsp. salt<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"3\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">1 1\/2 c. heavy cream<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"4\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">1\/4 c. butter, melted<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"5\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">1\/8 tsp. nutmeg<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-ingredient-item\" yumprintitem=\"6\" itemprop=\"ingredients\">1\/2 c. bourbon<\/li>\t\t\t<\/ol>\n\t\t<\/div>\t\t<div class=\"blog-yumprint-method-section\" yumprintsection=\"2\">\t\t\t<div class=\"blog-yumprint-subheader\">Instructions<\/div>\t\t\t<ol class=\"blog-yumprint-methods\" itemprop=\"recipeInstructions\">\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-method-item\" yumprintitem=\"0\">Cut the bread into 3\/4\"cubes and put in a buttered 9\"x11\" baking dish.<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-method-item\" yumprintitem=\"1\">Whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla and milk in a bowl until well blended. Add the mace and stir.<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-method-item\" yumprintitem=\"2\">Sprinkle the cranberries (or raisins) over the bread cubes then pour the milk mixture over the cubes  and mash down a little with your fingers (or spoon) to moisten. Let set several hours or overnight in the refrigerator.<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-method-item\" yumprintitem=\"3\">Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30-45 minutes.<\/li>\t\t\t\t<li class=\"blog-yumprint-method-item\" yumprintitem=\"4\">For the Bourbon Sauce-- In top of a double boiler, mix sugar, cornstarch and salt. Gradually stir in cream and butter. Cook over double boiler until thick and creamy, stirring often until the sauce coats the back of a spoon and leaves a path when you pull your finger across it. Stir in the nutmeg and bourbon.
